It is an indisputable truth that toys make an important contribution to child development. However, children’s safety is among the highest priorities when selecting a toy. Fortunately, EU puts in place strict requirements and updates them. Unless the toys do not meet the safety criteria, they cannot be marketed in the EU. There are several rules and standards laid down in many documents, such as the Toy Safety Directive and its amendments, as well as technical details developed by the European Standardization Organization. However, some toys are not still inspected and placed on the market.
While Toyzler pays attention to legal standards, it also sets certain rules beyond them. We assign great importance to toy safety, children’s education and development, naturality and sustainability while developing products. Therefore, we would like to illustrate the key issues related to toy safety and requirements with examples from Toyzler products.
Check CE Marking

First of all, you should check whether the toy has a CE mark. CE marking on the toys means the manufacturer has assessed the toy to meet EU Toy Safety rules and is considered to meet EU health, environmental and safety requirements as well.
However, even if the toy has a CE marking, you should keep in mind that the manufacturer may make a self-verification and you may want to check some other factors listed below.
All Toyzler products have CE marking and all the rules necessary to have a CE marking are followed. |
Certain Chemical Standards are Must
Normally, if the toy has a CE marking on the package, it is supposed to meet specific chemical standards, which ensures the toy is safe in terms of health.
Hazardous chemical elements (known as CMS substances) and heavy elements are not allowed in the toys. For other chemicals, you can check the labels. With the new revision of the Toy Safety Directive, many components (e.g., aluminum, nickel, barium, etc.) cannot be exceeded specific limits.
Toyzler products meet specific chemical standards and, of course, are all tested in the labs before launching them on the market. We do not confine ourselves with these standards, going beyond: We only use GREENGUARD Gold-certified UV Ink on Toyzler products, meaning that the ink meets some of the world’s most rigorous chemical emissions standards. Toyzler wooden toys are made of natural wood. We only use natural wood, which means it does not harm the people and environment chemically.  |
Technical Details
Technical details of the toys ensure the safety of children while playing. For instance, rounded corners are important to prevent children from injury if they accidentally hit;

Swallowing/Choking Hazard Another issue is the swallowing hazard when it comes to toy safety. Safe toys are designed taking into rules and standards account. Toys either should not have small pieces or should have intended for kids above 3 years old. Measures are given in technical documents, and if a toy is designed by considering specific measurements, it will be written on toy labels.

Measurements Taken for Cords
There are more toys that have cords, rope, string, etc., than we think. Cords, ropes or strings may not be safe for your child if not the necessary technical rules are followed. For instance, strangulation or suffocation hazard is a dangerous scenario for toys with cords. Unless these parts are in specific lengths and features, they can cause strangulation. Also, cords are not made of non-flammable materials, ignite easily. Unfortunately, there has been worrying news lately- makes the new changes in the Directive. However, you may want to ensure whether the manufacturer applies these rules. Check their website or packing of the toy!

Check labels, Read Instructions and Warnings Carefully
Toy Safety Directive makes labels and warnings obligatory. Reliable toys mostly have a User’s Guide comes with the toy. While instructions allow and promote the correct use of the toy, the purpose of safety information and warnings is to enable the consumer to use the toy safely, therefore helping avoid risks to the users or damage to the product.
Before we finalize, many more details can be mentioned as there are a lot of regulations and standardization. The most important thing is the information provided by the toy brand you choose. If you think that there is no sufficient information on the packing or toy website, we do not recommend you to prefer. If there is no CE mark, please avoid buying it. Also, if you have specific questions about toy safety, you can always contact our toy professionals by sending an email!
